Chapter 93
Myra’s heart raced, and her mind went into overdrive as Tony’s grip tightened around her arm. She couldn’t quite comprehend the tension that had suddenly descended between them, but the air felt thick with something she couldn’t place. His gaze, intense and unreadable, sent an electric chill down her spine.
Tony held her arm firmly, but he didn’t speak immediately. Instead, his eyes roamed over her face, lingering as if trying to gauge her every reaction. The cigarette in his hand continued to burn, its smoke curling lazily into the air between them, adding to the surreal atmosphere.
Myra’s pulse quickened as she shifted uncomfortably. She had no idea what Tony was doing or what he wanted. She had always known he was enigmatic, but this was something entirely different. He wasn’t his usual self—calm, controlled, and distant—but something deeper seemed to be brewing behind those unreadable eyes.
Her breath caught in her throat when he finally spoke, his voice low and gravelly, “You shouldn’t have run off like that.”
The words hung in the air like a warning. Myra could feel her heart hammering against her chest as she met his gaze. She wasn’t sure if it was fear or something else entirely, but she found herself unable to look away. “I—I wasn’t running away. I just needed a moment,” she stammered, her voice shaky.
Tony didn’t respond right away. Instead, he slowly exhaled, the smoke trailing from his lips in a cloud before he flicked the cigarette into the nearby trash bin. Then, with a sudden movement, he let go of her arm, the tension in his posture momentarily easing. “I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable,” he said, his tone still carrying an edge, but there was something almost apologetic in his eyes now.
Myra, still slightly disoriented, took a step back, but she didn’t dare leave just yet. Her mind was racing, trying to make sense of what was happening. Had she misread everything? Had she been imagining the connection between them?
Tony’s expression softened as he noticed the confusion in her eyes. “I don’t want to push you into anything, Myra. But I can’t pretend that I’m not interested in you. Not anymore.”
